Volvo XC30 To Arrive In 2012

Two years ago, we began hearing rumors about Volvo creating a soft-roader with the inner workings of the Volvo C30 and the styling of the Volvo XC60. After being in the pipeline for so long, those rumors were finally confirmed at the Geneva Motor Show by Volvo’s President for Overseas Corporate Strategy, Lex Kerssemakers. He says, "There will be some further expansion of the XC range in the near future."

Generally speaking, society is becoming more environmentally and economically conscious. The trends that we have seen with cars such as the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3 are that of a market wanting more for less. The photo shown here is a rendering of what the Volvo XC 30 might eventually look like. Starting off as a 3-door and possibly moving to a 5-door, this compact crossover shows us that the days of those big, heavy SUVs - along with their ridiculous gas mileage - just might be a thing of the past.

The Volvo XC30 will more than likely be available in a range of gas and turbo diesel engines and a Haldex-sourced all-wheel drive system. This will be the carmaker’s 4th crossover in the lineup and will be positioned just under the XC60 and the XC70.

"Naturally you would go down at this moment because we’re rather well filled with XC60, XC70 and XC90," Kerssemakers says.

Not only is Volvo “rather well filled” in the SUV department, but the market is also filled with competition for the XC30. The BMW X1, theAudi Q3, and the recently divulged, Mini Countryman are just a few of the upcoming crossover’s competitors. The XC30 seems like a logical response to the market’s demands, but Volvo needs to make sure that after two years of talk, the Volvo XC30 will be worth the wait. We should be able to make that decision sometime in 2012 when the Volvo XC30 is said to hit the market.

In the meantime, Kerssmakers says that V and XC cars "are the core of our business" and apart from working on the compact crossover SUV, Volvo is also working on a 5 door C30 and possibly a station wagon version of the S60 expected to be named the V60. We’ll keep you posted.

The 2011 Volvo XC60 should see no major changes following its introduction for the 2010 model year. This premium compact SUV seats five and shares elements of its basic design with Volvo's V70 and XC70 station wagons. XC60 should continue to come in base 3.2 and uplevel T6 trim levels. The 3.2 likely would remain available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and have a 235-hp 3.2-liter 6-cylinder engine.

The T6 would remain AWD only and have a 281-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder. A 6-speed automatic would be the sole transmission. Maximum towing capacity should remain 3300 pounds. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front side airbags, and curtain side airbags. Volvo's City Safety accident-avoidance feature would remain standard. It automatically activates the brakes at low speeds to avoid or reduce the severity of a rear-end collision.

Leather upholstery and power front seats should remain standard. Among the option packages that should return are the Climate Package, which includes heated front and rear seats, heated windshield washer nozzles, and rain-sensing wipers. The Multimedia Package includes an uplevel audio system, navigation system, and rearview camera.

The Technology Package includes adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, driver fatigue alert, and Volvo's Collision Warning, which readies the seat belts and maximum braking force if sensors detect an unavoidable crash. The Convenience Package includes a power tailgate and front- and rear-obstacle detection. This report is based on evaluations of the 2010 Volvo XC60.

Since we don't like jumping on any 'bandwagon' without sufficient additional information, we not too eager to adopt Swedish car magazine Teknikens Varld's claims that this rather simple rendering depicts an early illustration of the next-generation Volvo XC90 SUV/Crossover. The screenshot allegedly comes from an internal video presentation and it appears to show a larger model than the XC60 crossover model with an even more station-wagon profile.

Elegant chrome and silver trim
The Volvo XC90 Executive is identified by the discreet emblem on the rear door pillar. The special character is created by, among other things, the chrome finish of the door mirrors and C-pillars, and the colour-coordinated wheel arch extenders.
At the rear, the Executive model has an oval tailpipe that encases both exhaust pipes. To further enhance its profile, the Volvo XC90 Executive can be fitted with 19-inch aluminium wheels.

Nissan 350Z new images

The Nissan 350Z is a two seat sports car that was manufactured by Nissan from 2002–2009 and marks the fifth generation (codename: Z33) of Nissan's Z-car line. The 350Z entered production in late 2002 and was sold and marketed as a 2003 model. The first year there was only a coupe, as the roadster did not debut until the following year. Initially, the coupe came in base, Enthusiast, Performance, Touring and Track versions, while the roadster was limited to Enthusiast and Touring trim levels. The Track trim came with lightweight wheels and Brembo brakes, but its suspension tuning was the same as all other coupes. The Nissan 350Z has been succeeded by the 370Z for the 2009 model year.
